If you are interested in how moisture meters work what the role of the various types is; the true facts about moisture meters are in our 20 minute video.

Our Technical Director has 40 years of experience in using meters and is one of the countries leading practitioners. He also likes to share good practice and is keen for others to learn too. In this video you will learn about the main advantages and limitations of electronic moisture meters used in pin mode (scanning mode is covered elsewhere). You’ll also learn about chemical moisture meters; how they work, what they are useful for and the pitfalls of these too. Bryan then covers the use of more forensic ways of measuring moisture in building materials using gravimetric methods. He explains the difference between ‘free water’ in materials and ‘hygroscopic’ moisture and explains why this is so important.

He also introduces the crucial profiling methods, which all of the meters and gravimetric systems rely on for accurate information.  Some myth are debunked too and the video should satisfy all but the most enquiring mind. Of course not everything is covered and at 20 minutes the video is considered long enough without covering every possible detail and scenario.

What Bryan stresses right at the start is the importance of not relying solely on a meter of any type. It is just a tool for a qualified and experienced surveyor to use to help diagnose dampness properly. As he says “Eyes, an open mind, good training and an ethical approach are what matter”.

We hope you enjoy Bryan’s presentation, shot in his damp diagnosis lab in one take, with no script or notes….. yes, he that nerdy!
