commercial basement waterppoofing design by Brick-Tie

Just a cellar? No; a ball room with elevator and bespoke spiral stair – all underground

Our team of skilled and experienced cellar waterproofing techncians are here to ensure that your commercial project runs efficiently and smoothly. However on commercial projects in particular you need sound basement waterproofing design skills. We assist with the design and implementation of a new basement, or waterproofing required in existing cellars, we’re here to help.

With a team of CSSW qualified basement waterproofing design specialists, we work with a variety of clients to meet compliance with BS8102: “Code of practice for the protection of below ground structures against water from the ground”, which demands “inclusion of a waterproofing design specialist in the basement design process”.  Meeting the challenge on busy commercial sites requires diligence and attention to detail. It’s also crucial that the activities of other contractors on site is taken into account. Good communication and a proactive attitude is essential or, works can be delayed and costs can spiral – we know this.

Compliance and our approach

CSSW (Certificated Surveyor In structural waterproofing), is the national qualification for professional basement waterproofing design specialists. If we’ve designed and installed the basement waterproofing system on your project, you’ll be sure of compliance with NHBC Chapter 5.4, Premier and LABC Warranty. Subsequently, your new build and residential conversions can qualify for insurance cover. We can liaise with the project’s relevant Building Control Body (BCB), to ensure prior agreement to the proposed waterproofing system.

Large basement planned? This was waterproofed by us to BS8102 using Type A and Type C combined

Our cellar waterproofing contractors and specialists use a wide range of proven basement waterproofing methods, including Type A and C methods (as referenced under BS8102). Some examples of the types of waterproofing work our technicians have experience in include:

  • Podium decks
  • Cellars
  • Retaining walls
  • Lift pits
  • Underground car parks
  • below ground office space and retail space.

We’re regular users and specifiers of the Vandex range of cementitious waterproofing materials for concrete, having used these proven products on a very wide range of projects. Fosroc Poofex MR, used as a combined gas membrane and type A waterproofing membrane, is one of our staple methods. These materials have been successfully deployed by our teams on care homes, car parks, retail premises, residential developments, offices and university buildings. Type C cavity drain membranes by Oldroyd, combined with Safeguard’s superb ‘Sentry’ range of sump pumping stations are used also.

Health and safety is paramount in commercial waterproofing

CDM 2015 demands that the health and safety implications are taken into account and risk reduced at the design stage of any construction project. Our Nebosh qualified basement waterproofing design experts ensure that health and safety is addressed, alongside the waterproofing, right from the start. For example, type C waterproofing membrane can reduce the need for surface preparation of concrete; which can be a source of harm from bulky and vibrating tools (Hand Arm vibration and Work Related upper limb disorders) , excess noise (noise induced industrial deafness) and silica dust production (Silicosis, Lung cancer and COPD). The combination of waterproofing expertise and occupational health and safety competence ensures waterproofing which delivers on many levels; for clients, employees and everyone on site.

Designers and clients can be sure that as far as their own duties under CDM and ‘competence’ are concerned, we have everything in place. Competence checks by HSE, principle contractors or any other members of the project team are most welcome (outside scrutiny always brings improvement in any firm).
