As if we weren’t already Yorkshire’s best qualified damp-proofing and timber treatment team – we now add another award to the set! The Construction Awards Alliance is an alliance between the Cskills and City & Guilds and together they are dedicated to improving skills standards in construction. This is something we agree with and support.

The Cskills award; Level 2 NVQ diploma in “Construction Wood Preserving and damp-proofing” includes on site assessment in:

  • Applying damp-proofing and timber treatment
  • Conforming to efficient working practices
  • Conforming to general safety practices in the workplace
  • Moving and handling resources in the workplace
  • Preparing structures for damp-proofing and wood preservation
  • Reinstating the structure after treatment

These assessments took place on sites in Leeds, York, Wakefield, Harrogate and Ampleforth. Our technicians were installing DryZone injected damp-proof courses, completing treatment for woodworm and Dry Rot using Safeguard’s Soluguard and ProBor and installing Oldroyd vertical damp-proof membranes, Dry Base liquid applied membrane, vandex BB75 waterproofing and Storm Dry water repellent cream.

All our technicians and MD Bryan Hindle now have their NVQ certificates, which prove that they really do know what they are doing, when it comes to damp-proofing timber treatment of Yorkshire’s housing (as if we didn’t know this already 🙂 )

Why only now? Well, until recently there was no assessment body we could employ to do this assessment independently. However, at last an assessor was found by the PCA and we brought him from the south of England at a cost of over £3000 to do this for us.

£3000 is a good chunk of our profits, but we feel that it is money well spent, making sure that our clients get the correct treatment and damp-proofing they expect from us. Independent assessment is crucial, because damp-proofing and timber treatment is almost always hidden from view and clients have no way of checking the work; they rely on guarantees and the assurances of their chosen specialist contractor.

In our case clients can be assured that our claims of damp-proofing and timber treatment expertise are not made lightly and that we do challenge ourselves, with independent assessment and scrutiny whenever we can, so that standards are kept high.

Congratulations to all technicians and to our Administration manager Katrina Jackson, who organised the assessments for us. Our thanks also go to Steve Hodgson of the the Property Care Association, who with his team, has worked tirelessly to obtain assessment for the Property Care Association membership.
